Obviously, within the confines of this chapter we can only be brief here, but hopefully this cultural historical glance at concepts and theoretical traditions will be suggestive. A third strategy for avoiding transforming everyday practices of hope into ideology is to examine, in some detail, how the popular concept of hope is not merely invoked, but recreated and critiqued by ordinary actors as part of their very practice of trying to create hope in their local circumstances.
